Three children and two grandchildren later, Carol’s long since stopped delivering the weather. Over the years, all three of her children have worked at Kenmore Air, often on the line crew.
Following in their footsteps, Carol joined the Kenmore Air team in April of 2005. Around Kenmore Air Harbor her Quickie Caramel Bars have fondly become known as Kenmore Air Bars.
The recipe was borrowed from Carol’s long time friend and former Kenmore Air employee, Marlys P. As Carol likes to point out, “There are many versions of this dessert, but with butter, brown sugar and only 10 minutes to assemble, they are always delicious!”
What are you waiting for? Your next batch of Kenmore Air Bars are just 10 minutes away. Happy Halloween!
Quickie Caramel Bars (AKA Kenmore Air Bars)
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. butter
3/4 c. quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 c. coconut
1/2 c. chopped nuts (substitute Rice Krispies if allergies prohibits nuts)
1 c. chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease well an 11×15-inch jellyroll pan (or alternatively, line pan with parchment paper). Line the bottom of the pan with whole graham crackers.
In a small saucepan, heat brown sugar and butter until they are well blended and a syrupy consistency. Pour the syrup mixture over the graham crackers. Mix together oatmeal, coconut, and nuts. Sprinkle over the syrup. Sprinkle chocolate chips over all. Bake 10 minutes. Cut while still warm.
