Win a Trip to the 2014 Victoria International JazzFest

Last Friday we had a big announcement. A huge announcement. An announcement which makes me pretty giddy just to be writing about it. I was so giddy on Friday I spent the entire day singing along to the sweet, sweet sounds of Bobby McFerrin.

Why? Because we’re sending a lucky winner and their guest to see him perform at the Victoria International JazzFest in Victoria, BC. The goodness doesn’t just stop there. The full meal deal includes:

  • Roundtrip seaplane flight for two people on Kenmore Air from Seattle’s Lake Union to Victoria’s Inner Harbour June 20 with return flight June 22
  • Two nights at the Hotel Grand Pacific, double occupancy (Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21)
  • Two tickets to three different TD Victoria International JazzFest shows: Friday, June 20 – Hiromi at the Royal Theatre as well as Lady plus David Ward at the Sugar Nightclub; Saturday, June 21  – Bobby McFerrin “spirityouall” at the Royal Theatre

Bobby McFerrin
Even if you’re not familiar with Bobby McFerrin, you most likely have heard his famous song, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” (If you haven’t, get on it. Now. Right here. It’s the kind of song that just puts a smile on your face.) With a sound that constantly blurs the boundaries between pop and high art, Bobby is a 10-time Grammy winner. His latest recording spirityouall pays homage to his father’s passion for black spirituals. Bobby’s father was an operatic baritone and the first African-American man to sing at The Met in New York City. Spirityouall is completely dedicated to spiritual music with tunes like “I Shall Be Released” and “Swing Low Sweet Chariot.”

Hiromi “The Trio Project”
Decades ago, Japanese composer and pianist Hiromi redefined the parameters of jazz. But after recording and performing on solo piano, she expanded her repertoire once again. In a trio of vocals, base and drums, Hiromi has once again developed new sound that wows audiences. The Trip Project features two first-call veterans – bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Philips.

Lady plus David Ward
Nicole Wray (aka Lady) has an achingly sweet and stunningly powerful sound. Her latest record Lady, is a dance-friendly combo of Memphis-style groom and hip-hop beats that weaves in the slinky rhythms of modern R&B. It’s sexy, sultry and oh so good. Before Lady takes the stage, soloist David Ward will share unique sound that’s making waves in the electronica world.
